Home Improvement

This past Friday, I was sick.  One of those fun illnesses where you lay on a bed curled up because your stomach is totally cramping and you're afraid to eat, drink or even move.  It was a blast!  Luckily, it only lasted about 24 hours.  Saturday, I was back to normal for the most part and able to tackle some home improvement projects.  The big one this weekend is the storm door.  Sandra and I bought a storm door from Lowes last summer.  We just never managed to get around to putting it up, because it required modification of the frame in order to make it fit.

Well, no point in putting it off any longer.  With a lot of help from my friend Matt, we got a piece of wood cut to size and slapped the thing on the house.  Of course, it is every so slightly off because the actual door frame is not perfectly straight, but we've come to expect that from the guy who built the house two years's great, but slightly off.

As you can see, we still need to paint the wood we added, but we'll save that for when it was above 50 degrees outside and not pouring rain like it did this weekend.  While I worked on that,  Sandra decided that it was time to refinish our park bench.  In the picture above, you can see the pieces after she took it apart.  This was her baby from the go!  She got a sander and some stain and started working on the wood, only to realize the next day that the wood really looked like junk because it was so weathered.  Even after a fresh coat of stain, it was pretty ugly.  I jumped in to help at this point and we got all new wood for it and refinished it.  It really looks so good now that you'd think it was a brand new bench.  Here's the before and after.  I'm really proud of Sandra for jumping in and taking on a project like that.  It was so fun working together to finish it up.
